Nifty Storage Ideas
I wish I could tell you where I found these images, but I cannot remember. O Magazine? Real Simple? I am ashamed of myself. In any event, these seem like very practical and easy to execute storage ideas. Someone was thinking!

Jewelry Storage

I came across this video on jewelry storage and found it quite educational. The organizer talks about storing your jewelry to display versus storing it out of sight. Since I have already greedily taken up our generously sized closet with my clothing, I am an out of sight jewelry storage person. I like the clear plastic trays the organizer recommends.

Making Room

Years ago my very precise and handy dad redesigned my closet, a la California Closets, but for a fraction of the price. Before he installed one shelf, however, I took my time counting the number I had of each kind of garment and was very mindful of how I wanted to store my things. For example, I wanted a certain amount of space for my dresses and longer coats, a larger, double bar space for skirts, pants and tops, and a lot of shelves for folded T-shirts, sweaters, scarves, and purses. I get a little thrill of satisfaction when I look at my well-organized closet and find it helps me start my day on a positive note.
Wardrobe Wisdom has given me the opportunity to work in dozens of closets. Some are tiny and some are larger than my living room (really). Regardless of your closet's size, think of ways you can optimize it, putting items in places that make sense. Your wardrobe should be a happy place, not a den of despair!

Scarf Storage

It can be so hard to see our scarves sometimes that we forget what we have. Therefore, storing them front and center, in an organized way, is key. Even before you store them, do some weeding out, only keeping the ones you love and want to wear.
The photos here illustrate a couple of ideas for storage. I store mine in neat stacks (up to 5 in each one) on my closet shelves and on a hanger like the one shown here on the right. Some women use pretty hooks or belt holders to store their scarves. If your scarves are made of wool or cashmere, make sure you have some cedar around them to keep away the moths and other critters.

Clever Jewelry Storage

I often get asked about accessory storage by my Santa Barbara Wardrobe Wisdom clients. What matters is that you can see your accessories and that they are protected from the damaging elements of air and moisture.
My friend, genius time and space organizer Sara Caputo (of Radiant Organizing) recently blogged about ways to store jewelry. She shows what a fellow professional organizer has done with her own jewelry. I think these are clever solutions to storage dilemmas. Click here to read Sara's post.
I like the storage trays at Lillian Vernon (pictured above).
